Sparkle and Shine is owned and operated by the mother and daughter team of Gail and Brianna Wimbridge.

Sparkle and Shine began in its present form in 2010, however Brianna and Gail have assisted with Special Needs classes since 1998 in Joondalup, Perth Western Australia.

Sparkle and Shine are fortunate to have a close relationship with Jamie and Susan Rolton of Da Beat Dance Studio in Clarkson.

Brianna

Brianna was born in Perth in 1993 and commenced dancing in 1996 at the age of 2 1/2. Brianna has spent 14 years learning and competing in Jazz, Tap and Ballet.

Brianna has been a member of many successful troupe routines and also placed in many solo sections at the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance (CSTD) championships held annually in Perth.

Additionally Brianna has been a member of many successful national troupes competing in both Queensland and Victoria.

Brianna has passed her sub-elementary and elementary Ballet exams conducted by the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance. Brianna continues her dancing career at Da Beat dance studio located in Clarkson.

2010 saw her graduate from St Marks Anglican Community School. She now attends Edith Cowan Univeristy where she is studying a Bachelor of Education (K - 7) and her aim is to become a primary teacher of children with special needs.

Brianna is the Principal Choreographer for all routines performed and undertaken by students at Sparkle and Shine.

Gail

Gail commenced as a Special Needs Teachers assistant at an Education Support Centre in 1996. During the late 90's Gail completed both a Certificate III in Childrens Services (Teachers Assistant) and a Certificate IV in Education (Assistant - Special Needs) at the West Coast College of TAFE.

In 2009 Gail completed a Bachelor of Education from Curtin University. She continues to undertake an assistants role in anEducation Support Centre but also now undertakes a teaching role at a local primary school.

Gail's role within the dance school is to train the young volunteers who assist the students as well as the day to day running of the business.

Sparkle and Shine

As time has moved on and Brianna has become competent in her own right, she has subsequently taken the lead and is now responsible for both the curriculum and the choreography.

In 2009 Sparkle and Shine performers danced at the Da Beat end of year Dance concert.

2010 saw Sparkle and Shine grow from 7 to 35 students.Again they performed at the Da Beat Dance Concert but for the first time Sparkle and Shine also held its own concert at the St Marks Anglican Community School Performing Arts Centre and this will continue to be an annual event. The Jazz and Tap troupe also performed on Telethon, at the Butler Celebration Day and were filmed for the ABC's "Can we Help?" show.

Classes

Music and Dance are the soul of everyone. Sparkle and Shine allows people of all abilities to participate in dance in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Students are able to learn the basics of tap, ballet, jazz and hip hop and also take part in activities to improve gross motor skills. Assistance is provided to students as and if required.

Each jazz and tap lesson comprises of instruction in basic tap steps and a tap routine. Students are welcome to wear tap shoes as this allows them to feel the beat, however this is a personal choice.

Also included in each lesson are jazz routines and gross motor activities aimed at improving students’ abilities to gallop, jump, hop, skip and move in time to music whilst having fun.

A separate ballet class is available for those who prefer the quieter and softer techniques and for the teens and adults a jazz/hip hop class with dancing to the hits of the day. .

Volunteers

Volunteers offer their services to assist those students with physical disabilities as well as helping students remain on task It is a very rewarding & enjoyable opportunity. If you would like to volunteer click here and get in contact with one of us.

Fees

The cost of each class is $8.50 per week to be paid at the commencement of each term. Should you be unable to attend class you are most welcome to catch up on another night of the week. Should students be absent due to surgery or the like & we are advised in advance invoices will be amended accordingly. Term dates this for 2011 are:

Term 1: Wed 2nd Feb to Fri 15th April (11 weeks @ $8.50 = $93.50)
Term 2: Wed 4th May to Fri 8th July (10 weeks @ $8.50 =$85.00)
Term 3 Wed 27th July to Fri 30th Sept (10 weeks @ $8.50 = $85.00)
Term 4 Wed 19th Oct to Thurs 15th Dec (9 weeks @ $8.50 = $76.50) *Note Fri 16th class to attend on Wednesday 14th.
